The Hazards Clogged Clothes Dryer Vents Pose

What is the most common cause of house fires?

A. Smoking in bed
B. Cooking left unattended
C. Frayed wiring
D. Christmas trees igniting
E. Clogged dryer vents

Most people would choose from A, B, C or D but rarely choose the last option. But did you know that annually, more than 15,000 house fires are caused by clogged dryer vents?

Clogged Dryer Vent Fire Explained

Lint Builds Up In The Dryer Vent Pipe
The Lint Causes Reduced Airflow Through The Partially Clogged Pipe
Hot Air Gets Trapped In The Pipe
The Trapped Lint Begins Baking
Then It Ignites

You may not believe it is happening perhaps because you’ve been pretty regular in cleaning out your dryer lint trap. However, check the back of the dryer and you will see lint on the floor and floating around the vent pipe. The elements of a perfect fire is already there - high temperature, some oxygen and combustible fuel (in this case, lint).

The ironic thing about dryer vent fires is they can easily be prevented. Firefighters recommend that you do a yearly cleaning. It does not even take much time and money - it takes a little more than an hour to do and costs just $100 but it buys you a whole lot of peace of mind.

How We Clean Your Clothes Dryer Exhaust Ducts

We take pride in rendering exceptional and efficient service for our clients. We believe that the key to cleaning the dryer vent properly is being thorough and having the correct equipment.

1. We use specialized brushes that spin, loosen, and remove the lint, dust and debris. We use the spinning brush, which is the same size as the vent, up and down the entire length of the vent

2. We will also vacuum and clean the entire length of the vent. We use an industrial vacuum to do this for maximum vacuum power.

3. We use airflow analysis before and after the cleaning to ensure your dryer vent is completely clean and your dryer will operate at its optimum capacity. This means we measure the airflow pressure coming out of the vent after cleaning to be sure it is working at peak performance.

The entire cleaning process takes just about an hour.  Depending on the accessibility of your dryer vent, it  might take a little longer. Dryer vents on a second floor that snake through the attic and or walls with multiple bends take slightly longer and require a little more complex cleaning process.
